Converted into a wonderful restaurant car retaining all of its original character, this historic Pullman train carriage had been residing at Elsenham Station in Hertfordshire, England, before joining the many and varied facilities already available at Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate Galway.

The Pullman Restaurant comprises of two dining carriages, one of which (Leona) dates back to 1927 and was part of the original Orient Express. The carriage has had a varied life, it famously covered the Orient Express route, taking in Istanbul, Monte Carlo-Nice and all the way to St. Petersburg in Russia.
The carriage was part of the Brighton Belle line and transported guests from London to Brighton. Many celebrated and famous stars of the time such as Charlie Chaplain, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy travelled this route to perform, as Brighton was the hive of activity for theatre shows in Great Britain at this time.
1965 saw Leona’s final journey when she was used as part of Winston Churchill ‘s funeral cortege to transport his remains to his final resting place at St. Martins Church, just outside Blenheim Palace.
Leona played a starring role in the 1974 film adaption of Agatha Christie’s, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, which starred Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall and Sean Connery.
After serving as part of a restaurant at Essex's Elsenham Station, Leona and Linda (a carriage from 1954) opened on the grounds of Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate as the modern day Pullman Restaurant.
The Pullman Restaurant celebrated it’s 25th year at Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate with a new €1m expanded and modern built kitchen, reaffirming The Pullman Restaurant as Ireland’s most unique and celebrated dining experience.
